Day 2: Jaipur Sightseeing

The next day, in the early morning, freshen up and have breakfast, then we proceed for a sightseeing tour which begins from Amber Fort- located on the outskirts of Jaipur. It is known for its architectural intelligence, an ancient fort where the Kachhwaha Rajputs ruled. The unique wonder is a must on every tourist itinerary of Rajasthan. Construction of the fort-palace began in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh, the Rajput Commander of Akbar’s Army. It was later extended by the Jaigh Singh, before they moved their capital to Jaipur.

This fort is a magnificent example of Rajput Architecture, offering a stunning view of the hillside location and overlooking the lake. You will truly enjoy the fort view and elephant ride, which offer wide vistas throughout the fort and palace. Take a visit to the multiple chambers and hallways of the palace, popular for its intricate design.
In the Afternoon, we move for the city tour and witness the iconic palaces and structures. First, explore the Jantar Mantar, a magnificent stone observatory, built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1728.
It is the largest and best preserved astronomical structure of the five, as the other four are located in Delhi, Varanasi, Ujjain, and Mathura.

Then, we take a visit to the opulent City Palace, the former Royal residence, which is built by mixing the Rajasthani and Mughal designs. The Palace contains a fabulous museum which showcases an excellent collection of miniature paintings, traditional costumes, and armory.

Later, take a drive to the Hawa Mahal (A Palace of Winds), which is one of Jaipur’s major landmarks that attracts visitors. Constructed in 1799, this five-storey building is a stunning example of Rajput artistry. It was built for the royal ladies so that they could enjoy the city view.

Day 3: Jaipur- Bikaner (335 kms. approx 6 hrs. drive)

On the third day of the tour, have breakfast, and drive down to Bikaner and check into the hotel. The City of Bikaner was founded by Rao Bika in the year 1488. He was the first son of Maharaja Rao Jodha, who was the founder of the Kingdom of Jodhpur.
Not wanting to inherit anything from his father nor acquire any royal title, he decided to found his own kingdom in the large and big region of Jangladesh. The founder’s name is Bika, so the city gets the name Bikaner, which means “The Settlement of Bika.”
Although it is located in the middle of the Thar Desert, Bikaner is known as an important stop along the ancient trade route between coastal Gujarat and Central Asia, due to its numerous and adequate sources of spring water.

The most important places to discover in Bikaner are Bikaner Fort, Junagarh Fort, and Lalgarh Palace. Bikaner is also a good base to visit the nearby and extraordinary Karni Mata Temple, which is popular throughout the world, where thousands of rats are worshipped.
We start the day in Bikaner by sightseeing, beginning with a visit to the Junagarh Fort, also known as the Impregnable Fort, because it has the distinction of never having been captured by any enemy force in history. It was built between 1588 and 1593 by Raja Jai Singh, who was a general in the army of the Mughal Emperor, Akbar.

This fort is surrounded by moats on all sides, and here you can admire many palace buildings, pavilions, and temples of remarkable beauty. Most of these buildings are built of marble or red sandstone and have intricate carvings on the walls, windows, and balconies.
Next, take a visit to the Lalgarh Palace, which was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh [1881-1942]. The architectural style of the palace reflects great craftsmanship with some very skillful carvings of red stone figures. It also houses a wonderful collection of hunting trophies and period photographs, all are well preserved and interestingly displayed.

Day 4: Bikaner- Jaisalmer via Deshnokh (330 kms, approx 5 hours drive)

The next day, in the morning, have breakfast and take a route heading to Jaisalmer, located on the vast desert land to the west of Rajasthan. On the way, we take the first stop at the Camel Breeding Farm, which is just 8 km from the City of Bikaner. This farm is a reminder of the British era Camel Corps and Regiment Camp. It was reestablished as the National Camel Research & Breeding Farm in 1984 and is one of the only farms of its kind in Asia, where you can find a staggering number of over 250 different breeds of camels.

We also suggest you visit the Camel Museum, which is well worth it. Here, you can buy a variety of unique handicrafts made from camel skin, hair, and bones, all at very reasonable prices. A “must-try” thing is the ice cream made from camel milk, an item not available anywhere else in the country.
On the second part of the day, we will take a visit to the unique and world famous Karni Mata Temple, in the village of Deshnok, situated about 30 km south of Bikaner.
The consecration of this temple is linked to a very interesting legend involving Karni Mata, an incarnation of the goddess Durga, and Yama, the god of death in Hindu mythology.
This temple has the distinction of being the only one dedicated exclusively to rats. Once outside the temple, you find yourself in the domain of hordes of small black rats. You can easily find around.
