Palces to visit in Agra

Taj Mahal

You’ve seen photos. Forget them. Nothing prepares you for the real thing at sunrise-mist rising off the Yamuna, marble turning pink, then gold, then blinding white. Walk barefoot on cool stone, hear the call to prayer echo off the domes, feel your jaw drop and stay dropped. Closed Fridays.

Agra Fort

Huge red beast with a love story inside. Shah Jahan spent his last eight years locked up here by his son, staring at the Taj across the river. Wander the halls where he once ruled half the world. Sunset views are heartbreakingly beautiful.

Mehtab Bagh

The secret garden directly opposite the Taj across the river. No crowds, perfect alignment, moonrise photos that get a million likes. Come at golden hour with a picnic; the monument looks like it’s floating.

Itmad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj)

Tiny, delicate, covered in jewel-like pietra dura. Built before the Taj, feels more intimate. Empty compared to the big one-sometimes you’ll have the whole place to yourself and a dozen pigeons.

Tomb of Akbar, Sikandra

10 km out, massive red sandstone gate with real deer wandering the gardens. Less touristy, cooler vibe. The top floor has fake sarcophagus; real one is underground in total silence.

Jama Masjid

Climb the steps opposite the Fort, kick off shoes, wander the huge courtyard while locals pray. Built by Shah Jahan’s daughter, still alive with daily life. Best chai stalls right outside.
