The most significant Buddhist celebration that takes place in Colombo is Vesak; this signifies the birth, enlightenment, and death (parinibbana) of the Buddha. The city's decorations include pandals (decorations made with brightly lit lanterns), which enhance the city's holiday mood and create a festive atmosphere.
With customary activities, games, and banquets, this festival symbolizes the changing of seasons and is held during the months of April and May. All members of the extended family come together to celebrate the arrival of the new year by participating in both spiritual and joyful ways. Therefore, the New Year reflects Sri Lanka's rich cultural diversity.
The Navam Perahera is an extravagant procession held every year at the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo. Many traditional dancers, drummers, and elephants participate in this celebration in order to impress and showcase the cultural history of Sri Lanka.
The Deepavali celebration is one of several religious celebrations that take place during the year for the Tamil community to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness. The homes of people celebrating Deepavali are lit up with oil lamps, candles, and incense, and they offer prayers as part of the ceremony.

Eid al-Fitr is also celebrated in Colombo by Muslims. The celebration of Eid al-Fitr occurs after Ramadan and consists of communal prayers, feasts, and prayer, with the objective of bringing individuals and families together.
