Fair & Festival celebrate in Orchha

Ram Navami (March-April)

Orchha’s biggest festival. The town swells to ten times its size; Ram Raja idol is taken in a golden palanquin through flower-decked streets for seven days of celebrations.

Diwali & Ram Vivah

Unique here,Lord Ram’s “wedding” to Sita is re-enacted with fireworks and a massive procession. The palace is lit with thousands of diyas; looks straight out of a painting.

Bundela Rajput Military Fair (January-February)

Horse and camel races, tent-pegging, moustache competitions near the cenotaphs. Very local, very colourful, almost no tourists.

Makar Sankranti Kite Festival

The sky above the Betwa fills with kites launched from palace rooftops. Evening bonfires and sesame-jaggery sweets everywhere.

Teej & Gangaur (July-August)

Women in green and red carry decorated pots to the river, sing monsoon songs, and swing under neem trees. Simple village joy.

Orchha Dance Festival (February-March)

Classical dancers perform inside Jahangir Mahal and on the riverbank against the lit-up cenotaphs. Small, intimate, and magically atmospheric.
