Palces to visit in Badrinath

Badrinath Temple

The black stone idol of Lord Vishnu in meditative posture, bathed in gold canopy, sits against the dramatic backdrop of Neelkanth. Morning aarti at 4:30 am and evening shayan aarti are soul-stirring. The hot spring Tapt Kund right outside is believed to wash away sins before darshan.

Mana Village (3 km)

India’s last village before Tibet. Narrow lanes, ancient caves where Ved Vyas composed the Mahabharata, the natural rock bridge called Bhimpul, and the origin point of Saraswati river thundering out of a cliff. Tea at “Last Tea Shop” is compulsory.

Tapt Kund & Narad Kund

Natural thermal springs right below the temple. Pilgrims take a dip in steaming water even when snow is falling around. Narad Kund is where the Mahabharata is believed to have been narrated.

Charanpaduka

A 20-minute steep climb rewards you with a rock bearing the supposed footprints of Lord Vishnu. The 360-degree view of snow peaks and the tiny temple town below is worth every gasping step.

Vasudhara Falls (9 km trek from Mana)

A 5-km moderate trek leads to this 400-ft waterfall. Legend says the pure-hearted are not touched by a single drop even when standing close; the water magically parts.

Neelkanth Peak

The sacred snow pyramid that towers over the temple. At dawn the first rays turn it golden-pink. Pilgrims time their prayers to catch the “divine light” moment.
