Located in Nepal’s southern plains, Chitwan is regarded as one of the country’s leading wildlife and nature destinations. Chitwan is located in the fertile lowlands of Chitwan District and is known for its lush jungles, rich biodiversity, and cultural roots, especially of the indigenous Tharu community. The center of this region is Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which contains unique wildlife, including the one-horned rhino, the Bengal tiger, elephant, and many different types of birds.
Chitwan has something for all types of adventurers and experiences visitors can have while in the area, including exciting jungle safaris, canoeing, birdwatching, and getting up close with elephants while at the Rapti River. The village of Sauraha, which is nearby, serves as a key tourist destination which has several resorts, various kinds of cultural programming, and provides opportunities for guided/cultural programs.
