Palces to visit in Dharamshala

Tsuglagkhang Complex

The spiritual heart of Tibetan exile. The main temple, museum and residence of His Holiness (audiences when he’s in town). Prayer wheels, golden statues, monks chanting at dawn. Even if you’re not Buddhist, the peace here is physical.

Bhagsu Waterfall & Bhagsunag Temple

20-minute walk from McLeod Ganj. Ice-cold water crashes down from the Dhauladhars into a natural pool where travellers and sadhus bathe together. Shiva temple nearby, cafés on the trail. Perfect half-day escape.

Triund

9 km moderate trek (or jeep till Gallu, then walk). Camp on a meadow at 9,300 ft with 360° views of snow peaks. Night sky so clear you can touch the Milky Way. The most popular one-day adventure in Himachal.

Namgyal Monastery

Inside Tsuglagkhang complex but deserves its own mention. 200+ monks studying and debating. Sit quietly in the courtyard at 5 pm when they argue philosophy with dramatic claps and gestures. Pure living tradition.

St. John in the Wilderness Church

1846 British-era church under giant deodar trees. Stained glass, Belgian bells, graveyard with stories of cholera victims and viceroys. Lord Elgin buried here. Feels like Narnia in the Himalayas.

Kangra Valley & Tea Gardens

Drive down to the lush lower valley. Rolling emerald tea estates (Palampur is the centre). Walk between bushes, taste fresh green tea, buy packets straight from factories. Sudden change from alpine to subtropical beauty.
