How to reach Himachal Pradesh
Fly into Chandigarh (IXC), Bhuntar-Kullu (KUU), or Gaggal-Dharamshala (DHM). Chandigarh has the most connections from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore. From airport to hills: pre-paid taxis or HRTC Volvos. Direct flights save time but the mountain road journey is half the romance.
Legendary. Overnight Volvo buses from Delhi (?900-1800) drop you in Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala. Self-drive on NH44 then mountain highways is pure joy (except monsoon landslides). Himachal’s HRTC buses are clean, frequent, and ridiculously scenic; locals cheer when you choose the ordinary bus over luxury.
The romance option. Kalka-Shimla toy train (UNESCO) is mandatory once in life. Broad-gauge trains reach Pathankot or Chandigarh; from there narrow-gauge lines crawl into Kangra Valley. New Vande Bharat from Delhi to Una is cutting travel time dramatically.
