Things to do in Jhansi

Watch the sound-and-light show at Jhansi Fort

Hindi and English versions. The story of 1857 told with dramatic lights on the fort walls. Even if you know the history, the Rani’s last ride will make your throat tight.

Eat a proper Bundeli thali

Head to Bundelkhand Kitchen or local dhabas near Elite Chauraha. Try aloo-bhindi ki sabzi, kaddu ki sabzi, bhutta ra madua ki roti, and the fiery laal maans if you dare. Wash down with sweet-sour kanji.

Visit the Government Museum

Inside the fort. Rare bronze sculptures, 1857 weapons, letters written by the Rani, and paintings that make history feel personal. Surprisingly well-kept and almost empty.

Drive to Barua Sagar Lake & Fort

A huge, quiet lake with a crumbling fort and ancient Gupta-era temples. Perfect picnic spot, especially in winter when migratory birds arrive.

Shop for Bundelkhandi sarees & brassware

Manik Chowk and Sadar Bazaar. Handwoven tissue sarees with real zari, and heavy brass lamps that look like they belong in a palace.

Catch a sunrise from the fort ramparts

Reach at 5:30 am, bribe the guard with tea if needed. The entire city wakes up below you, temple bells ring, and the red sandstone turns rose-gold. Best morning of your trip.
