Palces to visit in Manali

Hadimba Temple

Nestled in a cedar forest, this 1553 pagoda-style wooden temple looks like it walked out of a fairy tale. Dedicated to demon-queen Hadimba, it hosts a massive three-day festival in May with horn-blowing priests and possessed dancers. The giant deodar trees around it are older than the Mughals.

Old Manali

Narrow lanes, stone houses with slate roofs, bakeries smelling of cinnamon, and cafés playing Bob Marley since 1978. Cross the rickety bridge over Manalsu stream and suddenly you’re in a Himalayan hippie village where time forgot to move forward.

Solang Valley

14 km up, this meadow turns into an adventure park. Summer: paragliding, zorbing, ropeway. Winter: ski slopes, snowmobiles, hot maggi at 2,500 m. Even if you do nothing, just lying on the grass staring at snow peaks feels like cheating life.

Rohtang Pass (now Atal Tunnel bypass)

At 3,978 m, this used to be the dramatic snow-wall gateway to Lahaul. Post-tunnel, Rohtang is quieter; perfect for snowball fights in June or sipping tea while yaks photobomb your pictures. Permit still required.

Vashisht Hot Springs

Three kilometres uphill, natural sulphur springs bubble inside an ancient temple. Men and women have separate stone baths; soak while snowflakes melt on your nose. The best free spa the mountains ever built.

Jogini Waterfall

Short, beautiful trek from Vashisht temple through apple orchards and pine forests to a 50-ft cascade that feels like the mountain is showering you personally. Carry snacks, stay till sunset; the walk back under starlight is pure magic.
