Palces to visit in Nainital

Naini Lake

The heart of the town. Emerald-green in the morning, mirror-calm at dusk. Rowing boats, colourful yachts, and the reflection of surrounding hills make it impossibly photogenic. A slow walk around the 1.5 km Mallital-to-Tallital stretch is mandatory.

Naina Devi Temple

Perched on the northern shore, this ancient Shakti temple gave the lake its name. Legend says Goddess Sati’s eyes fell here. During Navratri the whole lakefront turns into a river of lamps and devotion.

Snow View Point

A quick cable-car ride (₹350 return) to 2,270 m. On clear days you get a full postcard view of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nanda Kot peaks. The small temple and chai stall at the top have been there since British times.

Tiffin Top (Dorothy Seat)

4 km gentle trek or horse ride to 2,292 m on Ayarpatta hill. Picnic spot with 360° views of the lake and Himalayas. Bring coffee and Maggi; the silence and the wind make everything taste better.

Eco Cave Gardens

A network of natural hanging gardens and musical caves on Mallital hill. Kids love the tunnels, adults love the quiet corners with lake views. Evenings are lit up like a fairy village.

Governor’s House (Raj Bhawan)

A stunning Victorian Gothic mansion built in 1899, now open for guided heritage walks (book online). The sprawling lawns, deodar trees and the old-world charm make you feel like you’ve stepped into a Merchant-Ivory film.
