Things to do in Nainital

Candle-lit evening boat ride

After 6 pm the lake belongs to candle boats. Hundreds of floating flames, soft Pahadi music from the ghats, and the mountains turning purple; pure romance, whether you’re with someone or happily alone.

Walk the full lake loop at 6 am

Zero crowds, crisp air, mist rising off the water, and the town still asleep. Takes 45 minutes and gives you the lake at its most beautiful.

Horse ride to China Peak

The highest point (2,615 m) via old forest trails. Three hours return, breathtaking sunrise views of the entire Himalayan wall from Bandar Punch to Api-Nampa.

Shop and eat on Mall Road

Woollens, candles, fruit wine, Bal Mithai (Kumaoni fudge), and the legendary Sakley’s chocolate éclairs. Bargain hard, eat more than you planned, and don’t miss the 150-year-old boat-shaped church.

Stargazing from Kilbury

15 km away, 7,000 ft, zero light pollution. On new-moon nights the Milky Way looks close enough to touch. Forest rest house has basic rooms if you want to stay overnight.

Day trip to the lesser lakes

Bhimm tal, Naukuchiatal, Sattal - a chain of seven gorgeous lakes 20-25 km away. Quiet, less touristy, perfect for kayaking, birdwatching, or just sitting under oak trees with a book.
