Palces to visit in Jawai

Jawai Dam & Lake

A 1950s dam that drowned valleys and created Rajasthan’s most unexpected bird sanctuary. Winter mornings: thousands of flamingos, cranes, bar-headed geese skating on glass-like water while leopard hills watch from behind. Best seen from boat (some camps arrange).

Leopard Hills (Kambeshwar Mahadev area)

Granite domes riddled with caves where leopards raise cubs. Rabari shepherds graze sheep right below. No fences, no drama, just centuries-old coexistence that makes your brain short-circuit.

Dev Giri (Bhairav Temple)

An ancient cave temple on top of a hill. Climb at sunrise with a local Rabari guide; the view of the entire leopard kingdom is ridiculous. Leopards often sleep on the ridge opposite.

Jawai Bandh Village

Real Rabari life, turbaned men with metre-long moustaches, women in black with kilos of ivory bangles, charcoal-eyed kids chasing goats. Buy handmade wool shawls straight from the loom.

Kambeshwar Mahadev Temple

Tiny 10th-century Shiva shrine inside a leopard cave. The priest rings the bell and leopards don’t even blink. Mind-bending proof that faith and wilderness can share the same rock.

Singhasan Hill

The tallest granite outcrop. Climb (or drive halfway) for 360° views, lake on one side, Aravallis on the other, leopard paw prints everywhere. Sunset from here feels like the planet is showing off just for you.
