Palces to visit in Joshimath

Jyotirmath Shankaracharya Temple

The 8th-century monastery where Adi Shankaracharya meditated under the ancient Kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree) still alive after 1,200 years. Quiet, powerful, and the spiritual anchor of the town. Early morning aarti here resets your soul.

Narsingh Temple (Winter Seat of Badrinath)

When Badrinath closes in winter, Lord Vishnu moves here. The black stone idol’s left arm is thinning every year; legend says when it disappears, the route to Badrinath will vanish. Devotion and mystery in one courtyard.

Auli Ropeway (Asia’s second-longest)

10-minute ride from Joshimath to Auli at 3,010 m. Views of Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dronagiri so close you can almost touch them. In winter it’s skiing heaven; rest of the year, pure Himalayan panorama.

Gorson Bugyal

Gentle 3-km walk from Auli top takes you to rolling green meadows ringed by snow peaks. June-July carpets of wildflowers, October-November golden grass. Perfect picnic spot with zero crowds.

Vishnuprayag

20 km below Joshimath, Alaknanda meets Dhauliganga in a roaring turquoise embrace. Stand on the bridge, feel the spray, watch the rivers fight and merge. One of the five sacred confluences.

Tapovan Hot Springs

15 km away, natural sulphur springs bubbling at 50 °C amid snow views. Dip your feet, let the mountains cook the city stress out of you. Small temple and quiet sadhus add to the magic.
