Fair & Festival celebrate in Mandi

Shivratri Mela

The big one - over 200 hill deities arrive on palanquins. Seven days of processions, music, night markets. Mandi becomes Himachal’s Kumbh Mela.

Nalwari Cattle Fai

One of India’s oldest livestock fairs. Decorated bulls, horse trading, wrestling, folk theatre under floodlights. Pure mountain testosterone.

Minjar Fair

Week-long harvest festival. Silk minjar tassels, cultural shows on the polo ground, boat races on the Beas. Ends with a grand procession.

Makar Sankranti Lohri

Bonfires on every chowk, sesame-jaggery sweets, kite flying from rooftops. Locals welcome strangers to their fires.

Basant Panchami

Yellow is everywhere - marigolds, turbans, sweets. Special pujas at Panchvaktra temple, start of the trekking season.

Diwali & Bhai Dooj

The entire town is lit with diyas along the river. Sisters tie threads on brothers’ wrists at Triloknath temple; the atmosphere is gentle and deeply family.
