Fair & Festival celebrate in Thimphu

Thimphu Tshechu

Thimphu Tâchhu or Thimphu Tshechu, which celebrates Bhutanese cultural, spiritual and traditional beliefs through religious rituals and colourful masked dance performances, takes place at the Tashichho Dzong over 4 days during the fall of every lunar month. The Tshi Tâchhu attracts both local and foreign spectators.
 

Buddha Jayanti

Buddha Jayanti commemorates the birth of the Lord Buddha. Many of the monasteries and temples throughout Thimphu conduct prayers, ceremonies and processions on the day of Buddha Jayanti,which creates a spiritual and serene environment in the city.
 

Losar Festival

Losar represents the first day of the Buddhist New Year and brings with it family gatherings, rituals and traditional food;Losar is a time for joyful reunions, renewal and cultural celebrations throughout the city of Thimphu.
 

Paro Tshechu (celebrated nearby)

The festival of Paro Tshechu is a significant festival in the region around Thimphu. Many people choose to attend both festivals as they offer excellent displays of Bhutanese culture through the many vibrant dances, masks, and religious ceremonies.

The Royal Highland Festival celebrates the culture of the Bhutanese highlands, and is celebrated all over Bhutan but mainly it is celebrated in Thimphu with cultural awareness programs and displays of traditional highland culture.
 

Druk Wangyel Festival

The Druk Wangyel Festival is located near Thimphu and features unique performances of the Bhutanese Royal Army as they honor the history and unity of Bhutan. This festival is different than any other as it provides an excellent opportunity to experience Bhutanese culture.
