Fair & Festival celebrate in Dalhousie

Minjar Fair (July-August, nearby Chamba)

Week-long harvest festival, 45 km away but many Dalhousie hotels arrange day trips. Silk-costumed horse riders, folk dances and the famous minjar (corn silk) procession.

Summer Festival (June)

Three days of folk music, dance performances by local tribes, food stalls and handicraft bazaar at Gandhi Chowk. Evenings end with bonfires and Pahadi songs.

Christmas & New Year

Colonial churches hold midnight mass, bakeries sell plum cake, hotels organise gala dinners with bonfires and live bands. Snow usually obliges.

Lohri (13 January)

Bonfires on hotel lawns, peanuts and rewari, folk songs around the fire. Perfect cold-night celebration.

Basanta Panchami

Yellow is everywhere - marigold garlands, women in saffron, kite flying. Marks the arrival of spring in the hills.

Dussehra in nearby villages

Small processions, Ram-Leela performances under pine trees, effigies burnt with homemade fireworks. Authentic and crowd-free compared to plains.
