Walk the colonial loops - Garam Sadak & Thandi Sadak
Two level roads circling the hills, built by British for evening strolls. One catches the sun, the other stays shaded. Zero traffic, just pine scent and old-world peace.
Shop at Tibetan Market & The Mall
Hand-knitted woollens, Himachali shawls, silver jewellery, prayer flags and singing bowls. Bargain gently, drink ginger-honey tea, watch the sunset paint the mountains pink from the promenade.
Trek to Ganji Pahari (Bald Hill)
3-4 hr round trip from Bakrota. The hill has no trees, just grass and panoramic views. Locals say it got bald because fairies danced so hard nothing grows there anymore.
Picnic at Subhash Baoli
Small spring named after Netaji who stayed here in 1937. Shaded by giant deodars, perfect for reading a book while sipping tea from a flask.
Star-gazing from your hotel balcony
Light pollution almost zero. On clear nights the Milky Way is so bright you can read by it. Most hotels provide blankets and bonfires.
Eat momos & thukpa at roadside stalls near Gandhi Chowk
Tiny Tibetan ladies run the best stalls. One plate of steamed chicken momos with fiery chutney costs ₹60 and tastes like happiness.
